Grade 5 Ontario Mathematics Curriculum – Financial Literacy Expectation(s)
Money Concepts:
1.1 Students will describe different methods of transferring money between individuals, organizations, and businesses.
1.2 Students will be able to estimate and calculate the cost of buying several items while taking into account any discounts or sales and the sales tax.
Financial Management:
1.3 Students will design a basic sample budget to show earnings and fixed and variable expenses.
1.4 Students will be able to explain the basic concepts of credit and debt and describe how they impact financial decisions.
Consumer and Civic Awareness:
1.5 Students will calculate the cost per unit of a product to determine which product is a better value.
1.6 Students will learn about the different types of taxes collected by each level of government and how the government uses this money for society.
